Father Rookey

Biographer Kathleen E. Quasey and Father Rookey, the 93 year old subject of her book “Healer of Souls” join Monica and Caroline for this insightful interview. Quasey discusses how she became involved in documenting the life of this remarkable man, whose humor and humility are obvious in the briefest of conversations.

Father Rookey, who himself was healed by prayer from a blinding accident when a child, first became aware of the gift of healing when, as a young Servite priest he helped fr. James Mary Keane establish Our Lady of Benburb College in a Protestant section of Northern Ireland; the College has since become a world-renowned center for healing. From there, Father Rookey was called to an administrative position with the Servite order in Rome, where his position took him throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He speaks seven languages. After returning to the US in 1968, Father Rookey was assigned to mission churches in the Missouri Ozarks, where he resumed his healing ministry. He then returned to his place of ordination, the Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows in Chicago where he served from 1985 to 1989. He has since founded the International Compassion Ministry, headquartered in Olympia Fields, Illinois, which gives him the opportunity to minister to whomever calls or writes in requesting his aid. Father has conducted pilgrimages to Medjugorje and the Holy Land, and has held healing services all over the world. His Holiness the Pope has honored Father Rookey by designating him a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher.
